Nature Abhors a Vacuum

a calendar day with nothing scheduled. Resist the urge to fill it up

Resist the urge to fill up the white space

I am an organized person and I like knowing what I have to do when.

Being visually oriented, seeing events in time helps me not over-schedule, which is less of a problem than it used to be.

I was raised with sly comments and subtle digs inferring that unless I was busy at some mother-approved task I was not earning my keep in life.

Drawing? Pffft.

Dancing? Why would you want to do that?

Writing stories? Waste of time.

Musical instrument? The piano was the only acceptable option and I suffered for three years with forced lessons and practice. It was torture. Plus, I was never good at it.

So here I am today with white space on my calendar. I saw it over coffee and I am happy to say I took several minutes to appreciate it before I started to think of things with which I could fill up my day.

A class at the rec center? Those errands I’ve been trying to get to? Making food for meal prep?

All legit options but in reality, just busy-ness

Today is going to be non-scheduled. This is still a difficult concept but after years of therapy I know I can allow myself to relax into it.

In addition to writing I think I might make some art and practice bass guitar and tenor drum, simply because they make me happy.

Oooo…a nap? Skeeter would love that. He is a champion lap-napper.

I don’t have to earn my right to be here and I am using the white space on my calendar to prove it.

Perhaps I’ll not “do” anything.

I might just take this white space and “be”.

Actually, I don’t think quotation marks are necessary.

I be.

Love it!

And May the 4th be with you.
